I heard a term the other day about having T shirt shaped knowledge. Some breadth across many areas, and some real depth in one or two. Personally, I think if we zoom out too much, we risk getting stuck in a kind of nihilism.
Maybe life is more like using a microscope. Sometimes you zoom in to see the fine details. Sometimes you zoom out to understand the bigger picture. What matters is the movement. Zooming in and out, back and forth, to see the shape of your thinking.
Practicing thinking in the deeper ways that only humans can is the key to living better and doing better, but that comes with doing your thinking out of a place of values and heart. Thank you for this piece on 5D thinking!
in a day to day basis, while talking to someone, we should try to see their life, decisions, and statements from different perspectives. i feel like that's a basic skill a lot of people lack.
This is really fucking solid, Dan. I'll be chewing on it for a bit. I see a lot of overlap with the models I work with on the regular - e.g. from the more "woo woo" side of things, your four dimensions of reality actually map quite nicely to the four elements of hermeticism, the four suits of the tarot, and even Jung's four functions of consciousness. I am right there with you on transcend and include. Not the first place I've encountered that idea by that exact name. Takes awhile to integrate into your thinking though the first time you encounter it. I feel like I often stumble toward transcend and discard. Definitely time to revisit the Ken Wilber on my shelf.
This is a very thought-provoking article indeed. There are additional facets to consider besides thinking that have a great impact on one's life, such as cultivating greater awareness/consciousness and also cultivating wisdom. One can gain a lot of both knowledge and understanding about concepts, structures, and systems across and up and down different axes. However, perhaps one element you missed discussing is how investigating the nature of consciousness can inform one's experience of life and ways of thinking. And cultivating wisdom and compassion can also contribute to generative thought and problem solving. Of course it can be said that one needn't be wise, compassionate, or aware to be a genius, but imagine how much more powerful a wise, compassionate, and aware genius could be!
I have come to let my subconscious provide some deep thinking 'insights' for me and worked on my ability to enable my subconscious to bridge my identity filters and my current world perspective & beliefs so new ideas reach my conscious awareness... some times from just observing whats happening each moment in a curious-ish non judgemental way... (or even 'asking' myself to think something over then observe over day or week or so) ... for me this leads to a serendipitous inner moment insight/idea (that can be practically applied/ acted on)
ps also pls note i believe you need to correct the following:
Atoms → Cells → Molecules → Organs → Organism
is incorrect
should be
Atoms → Molecules →Cells → Organs → Organism
& its actually also worth exploring the macro and 'micro' aspects of this 'meso' lineage
pps i suggest reading up on ant super colonies ... humanity is still struggling with this
This is such a powerful article! There are some close to us who get very irate at politics and, as of yet, cannot entertain another perspective... I’m still learning, but I see where my ability to entertain that I might be wrong in circumstances has brought respect and a better relationship with our children. May we continue to confront those emotions that cause us to want to stop thinking at that point. Thank you for your work, Dan! You are helping me greatly with mine.😊💪
Low agency environments treat discomfort as danger. High agency environments treat it as information. That distinction determines who adapts and who becomes dependent.

That s true , there is actually more :
You mean T-shaped knowledge which is transversal (for T)
And the is also the I-shaped knowledge which is deep expertise in one area

So true. It’s very important. I’m starting to coach (beyond our family;) and realized if I can stay in their world, everything is easier!

Identity is the real trap here. The moment you become "a marketer" or "a republican" instead of someone who uses those tools, your thinking stops.
This should be a college course.
thx for your thoughts
heres my non AI reflection on 'serendipity':

I like the article cover photo.
Arguably the best piece I’ve ever read here. This is so insightful

Love this Dan
That Krishnamurti quote got me through my high school years- I adopted it then as my motto and it still rings true as ever.
Powerful piece. Thinking isn’t about collecting ideas, but seeing reality from multiple angles without getting attached to any of them.
Love this!
