Thought-provoking as usual. Many people who rely heavily on AI to assist their writing wonder whether their writing can actually be discerned by other people.

Yes. I think it is not that hard at all.

AI makes your thinking so generic. I sometimes think it is even more harmful than junk food.

There are two things that make AI-generated writing very obvious to me.

First, since LLMs generate text token by token, the writing often feels like it is built sentence by sentence. You read an article and feel like you are looking at a stacked wall of sentences.

Second, some articles arrive at their conclusion almost presumptuously from the very beginning, but the writer cannot really explain how they got there. The conclusion comes first, and the thinking is filled in afterward.

After all, writing an essay is an attempt to explore a problem, not to arrive at a conclusion.

Okay, I got the hint. You got yourself 20 min back😊. Thats it right - “intent is what guides if it is or is not impossible to manipulate.”

Applies to this post 📫 too…. Dan Koe

The npc and main character stage I know of.

But what class of individuals are in the third stage. Are founders and authorities automatically placed there?

I love t! You have conveyed some of the key reasons why people get left behind or feel unable to keep up. Intelligence develops through reading, learning and doing. The more we expose ourselves to new ideas, perspectives, experiences, concepts and frameworks, and the more we practise and apply them, the more we grow. Our IQ, EQ, skills and thinking evolve. We start to see things differently, recognise opportunities, anticipate what is coming and think ahead of situations and people. All of that gives us an advantage and contributes to our success. AI can facilitate learning, but it cannot replace the human development, experience, and judgement. I truly enjoyed reading, thank you @DAN KOE .

Fantastic article, but I believe you're missing the big elephant in the room: AI.

You'll stay an NPC forever if you don't verify the provenance of the content you consume.

AI has fooled a large population of online content creators into thinking they know what they truly think. Their superficially fluent output is then read by unsuspecting others, unknowingly simulating (possibly false) understanding in their own minds, and they pass it along with a cursory hit of the "share" button. And so the virus spreads this pseudo-understanding, infecting the minds of all who say they don't care whether they're reading AI-generated content.

What is more dangerous than a tool that makes you believe you know more than you do? A tool that makes others believe it too.

AI is creating an army of NPCs that think they are Programmers.

I like that you specifically tagged it as a tool. I think a tool can’t make you believe you know more than you do. It’s just a tool.

It’s only wrong when you choose the lazier option i.e relying completely on it and skipping the part where it’s actually meant to boost productivity.

Let’s face it. Years ago, anyone would argue that search engines took away the advantages of having to manually go through articles and collect information. But again, it’s just a tool
